LEADS Head Start, a leader in Early Childhood Education, is a non-profit program for young children and their families.
Through an alliance of families, staff and community, LEADS Head Start fosters an environment of diversity to celebrate individuality and inner strength.
Through collaboration and community partnerships, LEADS Head Start offers comprehensive services to all children and families enrolled. We promote life-long learning to sustain the development of good citizenship.Head Start is a child-focused program that has the overall goal of increasing the social competence of young children in low-income families. "Social competence" means the child's everyday effectiveness in dealing with both his present environment and later responsibilities in school and life. Social competence takes into account the interrelatedness of social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development.
Eligibility:
Age:  Children ages 3 and 4, and children who turn 5 after the kindergarten cut-off date.
Income:  Families meeting the Federal Poverty Guidelines and / or State TANF Guidelines
Program:  Families receiving TANF related assistance through the Department of Jobs and Family Services, SSI, foster care.
*LEADS Head Start may serve 10% over-income families.
Services:
Head Start is a quality preschool program for income eligible children ages three through five.  It provides educational, medical, social service, and parent involvement opportunities for the families served and stresses positive attitudes, which are instrumental in developing individual abilities.  This program is provided free to eligible children and their families.


    Enrollment Requirements

    Head Start charges no fees for our services.
    Enrollment is based on income eligibility and space according to Federal and State Guidelines.
    Medical Exam - Each child attending the center shall secure and have on file verification of a medical exam using the form provided by the center. The medical statement shall verify a date of exam within the past twelve months and be on file within thirty days of the child's date of admission and every thirteen months thereafter, until the child is no longer enrolled in the program.
    Enrollment Forms - Enrollment records that include health records, emergency transportation information, and parent or guardian roster permissions shall be on file no later than the first day of attendance.
